Stop Press: Sunday Sessions

Due to an overwhelming recruiting response and the awesome rookies who have joined Komodo over the last two months, the little blue and white boats are bulging at the seems.

Spaces in the crews are becoming scarce.

If you’re interested in coming for a paddle with Komodo, please contact our Registrar, Ian ‘Smokey’ Dawson for a chat.

Our Sunday sessions are designed to give you an intro to dragon boating while getting  of the  experience time in the boat and to see why all turn into raving dragon boat disciples. Each session will start off with on shore activities to get everyone warmed up and switched on. This usually involves a range of activities by our qualified coaching staff to get your heart rate moving.

One of our experienced paddlers will then guide you through the basics of dragon boat paddling and deliver a safety demonstration before we head out onto the water.

From here our qualified coaches will teach you the finer aspects of paddling and most importantly, how to race dragon boats. All equipment including paddles and life jackets will be provided by Komodo Paddle Club and you will be fully insured on the water under a DBACT Temporary Membership (we’ll have forms available for you).

You will receive three free seHappy Komodossions to find your feet and then we hope you will fall in love with paddling (as we all did) and jump aboard for the rise of your life. Things you’ll need to bring along:

  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Water Bottle
  • Shoes and training gear you don’t mind getting wet
  • A full list of common questions from new paddlers is available on our FAQ page
