It was the morning of Regatta 4 and the weather was less than desirable but it didn’t stop 30+ Komodo’s from taking to the lake.
At 6:40am there was a sea of blue surrounding the tent as everyone was waiting with a buzz of excitement in anticipation for the day ahead!
First up was roll call, followed by some gentle banter before Kez led the tribe through a warm up and coach Chicki gave the formalities of what’s what in zoo for race day!!
Chicki, asked all paddlers to do their best and have fun and seek to improve race by race!! I can attest that’s what Komodo did on this faithful race day!!
Komodo represented with three crews, a ladies, an opens (lady-boys) and mixed white. Coach Chicki was up to her usual experimental ways with new drummers who had trouble holding on, different sweeps and strokes who shall remain nameless, who couldn’t keep straight faced for various reasons or so I heard.
The day was fast and furious and all three crews made it the finals and suddenly everyone forgot about the weather and stepped up and did what was asked of us all.. to improve each race and that’s exactly what happened!! Komodo ended up with a clean sweep, a hat trick, the trifecta!! Go you good things!!
Talking about good things, a massive thank you to Komodo’s brave volunteers who stood knee deep in water and helped us into our boats whilst it was raining .. Sue, Bestie, Pixie and Styker you’re all champions and thanks again for your efforts.
